Sharay Parkinson
As a child, I always loved to garden, but I never planned to make a living doing this until I realized how gratifying it is to cultivate and grow a variety of plants for a public garden. After completing a double major at Rutgers University in Psychology and Environmental Policies, Institutions, and Behavior, I developed the desire to step away from the desk and work outside. After a lot of perseverance and successfull completion of a Master Gardener's course, I landed a position which allowed me to do just that. Working for my county's park system allowed me to explore various garden designs while assisting the home gardener with any questions that arose. It also helped me broaden my horticultural knowledge to the extent that I now feel comfortable providing others with advice related to gardening as well as other enviormental topics.
